What about KM Kerr Pennington series? There were about a million but I
thought they were fabulous.

Out of print but well worth it is Shadow Summer and the other 3 books in the
series. I'm trying to remember who the author is, a woman from Tasmania.
They are a wonderful series about a family of 4 children who live on a dairy
farm. The 2nd youngest child, a girl, is to protagonist. In Shadow Summer
she has a breakdown and the book deals very well with an experience of
mental illness as an teenager.

I googled, Anne Farrell is the author.

Lee Harding "Displaced Person" and "Now I know" by Aidan Chambers "the
language of goldfish" and "A formal feeling", both by Zibby O'Neal. All of
these books deal with feeling different or alienated to an extent. A Formal
Feeling is about a parent's death, Now I know a young man's exploration of
belief (particularly Christian), The Language of Goldfish is about a young
woman's experience of depression and attempt to suicide. Displaced Person,
well who knows, Graham slips into a space where no one can hear him or see
him.

Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr

Wizard of Earthsea and others ...

Fire and Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones

Plum Rain Scroll (and the other books in the series) by Ruth Manley.
Apparently it's just been reissued so I'll be back to the bookshop to get a
copy.

What about The changeover or anything by Margaret Mahy? The short stories,
The chewing gum rescue and other stories" are fabulous too

Annie on my Mind (Nancy Garden) a lesbian themed story and The year it
rained, (Crescent Dragonwagon) as well.

I'm glad to see you've got the Green Knowe books, I love them. And the Joan
Aitken book, that is another fabulous series

Excellent thread Shaun, lots of good memories.
