That's the way I was taught, too, in the good ol' US. :-)

I think it's just odd to some to see that kind of style, figuring that
whatever is said should probably be held in one paragraph.  Admittedly, I
find it difficult to write multiparagraph quotes...it does look strange to
me. <Grin>
