Steve.bboyminn asked a question that addressed the proper use of quotation marks.
 
Many answered that the particular use of q. marks in question was how they learned, both Brits and Americans.
 
For any other writing mechanic questions, go the bible: The MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers.  It sounds boring but it is a HUGE resource.  You don't need the newest version that address electronic citation (Internet).  An older or  used version works great, and costs less.
