Can a lifedebt be transferred?

I think Snape's dislike of Harry is simply because of who Harry is -
James' son. When Snape looks at Harry, he sees an image of James.
While the picture is not quite complete (HBP opens some new
questions), we understand that Snape's hatred comes from the bullying
of James and his friends. Snape may see the touch of Lily in Harry's
eyes as well - a girl he possibly loved, but could never have. Harry,
like James, is also popular. Snape obviously has some painful
memories, and still holds grudges. While Harry is not James, and
Harry is not a bully, he still has many of the qualities of his father
that Snape dislikes.

While I don't believe Snape owes a life debt to Harry, I think Snape
ultimately understands what role Harry must play in the final battle.
While there hasn't been anything to really suggest it, I do think
Snape would protect Harry with his own life - not because of a
promise, unless it is a yet unknown promise made to Dumbledore, but
because Snape understands what the final outcome must be.
