Sorry to double up messages but it did remind me of the 'logic' behind
the comma being outside the asterisks.  The asterisks act as an
alternative to boldface or italics to emphasize a word or short
phrase.  Personally, I don't need the comma boldfaced/italicized or
any other means to denote it's being emphasized in a phrase, unless
it's during the discussion of grammar... sort of like now. {g}
