I know some people find this a very touch subject, but Dan Radcliffe
is a corporation of sorts, or at least his money is funneled through a
corporation, and that means they have to make periodic public
statements of earnings.
Here are two links that have more details-
ITV-

The Sun-

A quick read of these articles will show you that what they are saying
is a little inconsistent. There seems to be some confusion about how
much money Dan has in his Corporation and how much he earned.
The basics are -
Last year he seems to have earned -
£6,000,000 (US$11,500,000 approx.)
Next year, or at least for his next movie, he will earn an estimated-
£8,000,000 (US$15,200,000 approx.)
His corporation currently has roughly £7,000,000 in assets (half cash,
half investments) or about US$13,300,000 (approx.).
That is all good and well, I have no problem with what he earns, it
seems a fair share considering how much money these films are almost
guaranteed to make. I just hope the salaries of the other principle
characters (Rupert, Emma, Tom) are keeping pace as well.
The part the bothers me is that his money is in a corporation named
'Gilmore Jacobs'. The corporation has 1,000 shares, all of which
appear to be owned by Dan's parents. While they own the shares, they
claim '...that the firm's riches belong to Daniel'.
Dan's parents seem very level headed and trustworthy, and they further
seem talented and experienced enough to earn very substantial livings
without relying on Dan's money. That is unlike most child star who
basically have deadbeat or working class parents. But they wouldn't be
the first well meaning parents to invest their income-producing
children into bankruptcy. Many, many child stars have come of age only
to find that they basically have nothing; the money is just gone.
I trust Dan's parents to try and do the right thing, but rather than
investing in high risk investments like '...another company Almada
Productions, which develops film industry projects and scripts...', I
think they would be much wiser to invest in an assortment of proven
mutual funds. However, I admit I don't know anything about this
particular company; it may be a great investment, and may turn out to
be a great resource for Dan.
Still, the uneasiness is mine and I have to own it; not reall fair to
project my feelings on to them. I think Dan's parents are intelligent,
talented, well-meaning people who want to do what is right for Dan,
but that doesn't mean they are the wisest people when it comes to
investing.
I don't want to start a big argument about the quality of Dan's
parents or the wisdom of his/their choices. They all seem to be
proceeding wisely in general. To some extent this is their private
business and their private choice, and certainly none of my business.
I just have to trust them.
But still I can't help worrying. I don't want to see all Dan's work
and trust to go down the drain, and have him end up like so many child
stars.
I confess that I worry about all the young principle actors and
whether their money is being guarded wisely. I have the same concern
for them that I have for Dan, that they are not betrayed by
well-meaning but poor management.
Just a few thoughts.
