I just happen to be in the Public Library today and the issue of
Consumer Reports that was on display had an article about the best
anti-virus, anti-spyware programs.

They are as follows-

1.) Bit Defender Standard, $30 purchase/$20 renew, overal rating 87

2.) Zone Labs Anti-Virus, $30 purchase/$20 renew, overal rating 85

3.) Kaspersky Labs, $50 purchase/$35 renew, overal rating 82

4a) Norton Anti-Virus for Mac, $40 purchase/$30 renew, overal rating 80
4b) Norton Anti-Virus for PC, $40 purchase/$30 renew, overal rating 80

While some have recommended Grisoft's AVG, or F-Prot which are free,
my sister had AVG on her computer and it wasn't very comprehensive. I
took me three days working day and night to clear all the viruses off
her computer. Keep in mind she also has three teenagers which doesn't
help keep a computer virus free.

I use Zone Labs - Zone Alarm Firewall-Personal (also free) and I am
very satisfied with it. If you buy the basic paid edition of Zone
Alarm, it comes with anti-virus and anti-spyware as well as firewall
protections. Zone Labs makes a variety of Internet Protection Suites
depending on your needs. For most people Zone Alarm Pro is sufficient.

I currently use Norton System Works (PC Utilities and Anti-Virus), but
as of the 2005 editions I've grown disillusioned with it. Most of the
utilities I count on are no longer available. So I am thinking of
looking else where. Zone Alarm or some variation of it is looking more
and more appealing.

Zone Alarm Pro is $40 (firewall and anti-virus/anti-spyware) with $30
a year renewals but that is for both; otherwise, $20 to buy and $20 a
year for just the anti-virus protection.

Since the subject of anti-virus programs is being discussed, I hope
this post is OK.
