late on this thread, but I wanted to add my two cents!
> Why did you start reading (or writing) HP fanfiction?
I started reading it, as so many did, during the long wait between books
four and five, out of a thirst for more Potter. I actually find I read less
since book six came out, probably because so much of it is based on good
Snape beliefs or because the ships are all not in canon.
> Why do you continue to read (or write)fanfiction?
I continue to read it because there are things I can find in fan fiction I
can't find in the books now. I usually read AU fics with Sirius alive, or
with Harry raised by Sirius now, but I still read a few fics based on the
author's view of what will happen next or post Hogwarts stories or marauder
fics.
> What makes a good fanfic?
Characters, plot and action. Also the subject matter, but that's directly
related to what I want to read. I want Sirius alive, refuse to read
anything AU which has Harry sorted into Slytherin or not friends with Ron
and Hermione and won't read certain ships, such as Draco and Hermione.
> Who are your top 5 fanfic authors and/or stories?
Whew, that's a difficult choice. I love almost anything by Katling,
especially Guild of the Night. Fate by Eowyn Jade, HP and the battle of
wills, Resonance, Never alone, Never again and the promises trilogy by robin
Lady. do you see a pattern? oh, I also loved After the End and Stealing
Harry. I don't like the Sequel to stealing Harry because, as I said, it
doesn't have Harry being friends with the Weasleys and Hermione. There are
just some absolutes for me. Sigh.
I realize you have had your meeting with the reporter, but I am always in
hopes of finding new fics to read and curious about what others think and
read, so I wanted to answer.
