I've never really thought of 'Potterspeak' being anything different,
probably because I am British born and bred. We say Merry Christmas
too, but it is interchangeable with Happy Christmas.
'Bloody hell' is quite a common phrase, and is really quite tame
compared to other terms we could use - do you lot the other side of
the Atlantic prefix 'hell' with any other words like we do? As a
child saying 'bloody' was a bit risque and left you giggling when
anyone referred to a 'bloody Mary' or a 'bloody battle'.
'Git' is a wonderful, and again fairly tame word; in fact it was one
of my son's first words and has always been a term of affection
between him and my dad - 'fat git', 'old git', 'stubborn git' etc etc
I think Jo has said that before that she is not allowed to let her
characters swear, and so the use of the above terms shows how
commonplace they are - they are not considered to be swearing, just
perhaps a bit naughty.

(who can call her 89 year old Grandad 'a stubborn old git' without
him clutching his chest and keeling over in shock!)
