Aye, I remember almost all computers were Macs at school back in the
1980-90s... probably because of Apple's education program for
discounted machines. However, I wouldn't buy a Mac because of the
price range. For example, I saw the superdrive refund from MacMall on
my boss's card and it was $100+--I packaged and mailed the return and
it was just one drive. Now, I can get a very good NEC CD/DVD burner
for less than $40... Newegg had a recent deal where the drive dropped
around $35, including shipping.

While I understand the lower price is because of mass production and
the rather circular effect of folk buying more PCs as a result of the
price, I also have to think of what's in my budget because I dislike
debt, especially when it's unnecessary. Just my .02 since I don't
need to buy a computer and this is Carol's choice. If you have the
money, go for it!

The three office computers here are Macs because my boss likes them
and has the money (or he thinks he does - he's a couple years older
than I am). Frankly, after working on an eMac G4 for a year and a
half (and a couple other higher end Macs), I'm not impressed enough to
warrant paying 2-3x more, aside from the machine looking 'sleek'.
Software specific to Mac only and that I'd *really* like to use would
probably be the only reason for me to get a Mac.
