Ironically, Kaki's son is doing a paper on the effects of divorce,
both positive and negative, and she asked about the benefits of
divorce. I posted this on another mailing list for her:

Hm, I just went with my mom to a divorce lawyer yesterday... and then
later in the day, I received a wedding invitation from a co-worker.

>From counsellors (to either keep your marriage or dissolve it) to
legal services, divorces have the opportunity to help the economy by
providing jobs... or forcing jobs onto folks. For example, spouses
accustomed to sharing income may be required to find a new job. Or
the splitting of assets requiring purchasing additional items/services
for their living.

Divorces have a wider impact outside the individuals and their
respective families, a trickle down effect of somebody's 'loss' being
another person's 'gain'.

A different POV from a gal with money and expenses frequently on her mind.

Or from a biological and genetic POV. Generally, variety in genetics
has proven beneficial for humans. Many societies, especially after
Bible scriptures, prefer a man to be married to one woman and where
marriage is often synonymous with monogamy. Therefore, a person's
offspring would only have one partner to continue the genetic
mixture... Although, some folks probably shouldn't be allowed to
'breed' as evident by the infamous Darwin Awards.

Heh, Butterfly Effect, indeed. Which, BTW, I saw that Ashton movie
and wasn't impressed. :-\
