As long as we are talking about food - Nutella

Nutella is cocoa Hazlenut Butter, sort of like chocolate peanut butter
in concept. It was originally invented in Italy during WWII when cocoa
and chocolate prices were sky high. The factory was moved to the
United States, and now, worldwide, Nutella out sells all brands of
peanut butter combined.

The odd thing is, I've only seen references to it in English
literature, and have never seen a jar of it until I became aware of it
through that source. There are a very very few high end grocery stores
and specialty stores that carry it.

In my childhood it was completely unheard of. Yet, somehow, worldwide
it is more popular than peanut butter and it is manufactured in the
USA. Maybe American kids just aren't as hip are the kids in the rest
of the world when it comes to eating toast.

Just curious if people are familiar with this product, and what part
it play in your childhood?

I bought a jar once at a high end grocer, never got around to trying
it on toast, just took a spoon and ate it right out of the jar.
