>> Nutella is cocoa Hazlenut Butter, sort of like chocolate peanut butter in concept. <snip> There are a very very few high end grocery stores and specialty stores that carry it.

In my childhood it was completely unheard of. <snip>

Just curious if people are familiar with this product, and what part it play in your childhood?

I bought a jar once at a high end grocer, never got around to trying it on toast, just took a spoon and ate it right out of the jar. <<

I am familiar with this product. I personally do not care for it. I grew up and still live in an all Italian neighborhood and many of my neighbors eat it and that was how I was introduced to it. Growing up as a child, my best friend would eat Nutella and fluff sandwiches.

As for it being sold in "very, very few high end grocery stores and specialty stores", I do not know where you live, but here in New York, I see it all over the place and in all of my local grocery stores. It isn't expensive, either.
