Yep, *horrible* experience the second time. At first, Compaq was
fairly good, and then, they merged with Tandy and HP. I remember the
second Compaq had a motherboard failure within months of new purchase
and I had to take the thing to Radio Shack for warranty repairs since
Radio Shack was "an authorized dealer" (I bought the computer via
Compaq's site). Since then, even after the mobo replacement, the
tower has had frequent blue screens of death, and at one point, I
started crying in frustration (that was within the first six months).
At least my Gateway *earned* its aging/failing status because I've let
that computer run 24/7 for weeks straight (heavy internet usage and
video capture/editing sucking up resources) over the course of six
years--on top of unfriendly environment conditions. Dunno how well
Gateways hold up now but that moo-machine will hold a fond spot for
me.
Both my Compaqs = scrap pile now. I'm ripping them for certain parts.
