A couple of members of my family have had E-Machines with no
complaints. My sister's old computer which was an E-Machine simply got
old and out dated, and she just bought a new one (E-Machine).
Although my brother had an E-Machine with no problems beyond it being
out dated. He tried to expand the memory but his mother board would
only accept 128Mb DRAM. He recently bought a Dell to replace it. My
mother also recently bought a nice Dell.
Dell is constantly having sales, my mother's computer is a 2.4Ghz
Pentuim 4, 512Mb, CD/DVD-RW, etc... total cost with a 17" LCD monitor
was $700. My brother's is essentialy the same computer with 1Gb Ram,
Memory card reader, larger hard drive, 19" LCD monitor was about
$1,000. They have NICE basic computers currently advertised for $500.
They are nice systems, but there is a certain amount of Dell software
that is alway running. Also, the Dell comes loaded with Trial software
that just eats up hard drive space. It can all be uninstalled though.
If it was my computer I would get rid of all that stuff. But my mother
and Brother aren't exactly sophisticated users, so I just let it go.
Just passing it along.
