It's a 3D portrait - that was a surprise

Hi All,
I had some time to kill in London yesterday after a meeting in Soho and before having dinner with my sister, so I went to the National Portrait Gallery to see the 'recent' JKR portrait ( http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/index.php?articleID=7530 ). One thing you don't realise from the Leaky article or the CBBC Newsround piece ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_4220000/newsid_4220800/4220804.stm ) Leaky refers to is that the picture is 3D. Not 3D as in careful use of perspective, and not 3D as in a sculpture, but 3D like a Victorian kid's cardboard theatre. JKR is painted on a plane that actually sits in front of the background. So does the table, and the radiator in the corner is made up of several layers. The whole thing is given a very exaggerated perspective so that it looks correct when you view it standing straight in front, but zany from other viewing angles.
Cheers,
Dumbledad.
