Carol responds extremely belatedly:
Just found this ancient post looking for something else entirely, and
I wondered myself what I meant. And then I realized that I meant
*now*, in 2006, Voldemort is long gone (as of 1996(?), when Harry
presumably defeated him), so Snape, assuming that he's alive and
somewhere other than Azkaban, is probably happier now. (IOW, I was
thinking of him in the present rather than immediately post-HBP. In
fact, I was thinking of all the characters who are wished a happy
birthday on JKR's site as being alive in the present, which doesn't
bode well for Luna.)

Yes, yes, Snape is a fictional character and all that, but I'd love
for him to find redemption and something akin to happiness at last.

Carol, who was actually looking for a post on typos in HBP and is
forced to conclude reluctantly that it doesn't exist
