Cellphone towers here in Miami all stayed working through the 120 mph
gusts of Wilma last October. Unlike trees, the towers are all sproingy,
and bend with the wind and there's so much redundancy of coverage that
while we had some busy circuit situations, we were able to stay in
pretty good contact through the storm, even despite the power failures
to 90% of the area (the cell towers have battery backups to last 72
hours and by that point the companies managed to get new batteries into
place).
