I saw the movie 'The Thief Lord' tonight and it was
actually much better than I expected. For those who don't
know 'The Thief Lord' is about a couple of orphaned boys
who escape an unpleasant Aunt and Uncle in England. The
Aunt and Uncle put the older boy in an orphanage and keep
the younger boy thinking that both of them together would
be too much trouble. The boys escape to Venice, Italy
which was their mother's favorite city. In Venice they
are befriended by the Thief Lord and the magical
adventure begins.
I have read the book which is also published in the UK by
Bloomsbury and Scholastic in the USA. It was originally
written in German by Cornelia Funke. A little girl wrote
to Bloomsbury to the 'guy who publishes the Harry Potter
books' and recommended it to him. He looked into in and
liked it.
It is a wonderfully enchanting story and the movie stays
very faithful to the book which is only 350 pages long.
I highly recommend both the book which is available in
paperback and the movie which is in video stores now.
It is a wonderfully enchanting story about kids,
adventure, mystery, and magic. If you have ever dreamed
about the traveling to the city of Venice, this book will
make that dream even more appealing.
I'd be interesting on comments for others who have read
the book or seen the moive.
