I got relocated off a vidding group because I posted between on and
off-topic... Maybe I work better on an off-topic group. :-\
Standard disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about. So if I'm
critical of a vid, it's not because I really know how to edit. I'll
comment on the vids I saw.
Gradually working my way through links. Starting at
http://community.livejournal.com/supernaturalvid/ and recent posts
that caught my eye--too many expired links in older posts. Okay, I
dig Wincest, and if a vidder says the 'magic' word of Wincest, it
usually has my attention.
I placed these vids in a folder for later viewing because of other
projects and real life. Unfortunately, a few have expired links now.
Song Title/Vid Title: Carry That Weight
Artist: the Beatles
Vidder: azuremonkey
Characters: Dean
http://community.livejournal.com/supernaturalvid/226422.html
Technically, there's some nice edits, though, I noticed at least a
couple instances of a stray frame (e.g. ~01:00 mark with Jess). This
is a good Dean song, but while I like some Beatles songs, this wasn't
among my favorites and it'll unfortunately bias me through no fault of
the vidder.
Song Title/Vid Title: Laid
Artist: James
Vidder: Barkley
Characters: Sam/Jess, Sam and Dean (possible Wincest)
http://barkley.livejournal.com/409886.html
Best use of the burning lady on the ceiling scene, evah! Cut to the
lyric 'she only comes when she's on top'. LOL! And Barkley's
response to allegations of Wincest: "This is not Wincest! They just
have a very codependent relationship." {chuckle} Though, since I
think long legs on women are hot, I *really* dug the scene with just
Jess's legs and the music around ~0:24-0:25. {whistles} Um, I kept
repeating that part. Dean being 'pretty' = hell yeah! Err, I
actually liked the "Jenny Ackles" manip at
http://community.livejournal.com/dean_sam/211843.html Anyway, many
humourous moments and I enjoyed watching this vid.
Song Title/Vid Title: Mona Lisa Overdrive
Artist: Matrix Reloaded soundtrack
Vidder: Diamondback
Characters: Metallicar, Sam, and Dean
http://community.livejournal.com/supernaturalvid/223392.html
I had initial mixed reactions on this vid. I kinda dug the techno
aspect of the song but it was... different seeing it paired with
Supernatural, so I *definitely* had to watch this vid a second time to
acclimate myself to the song and visuals. On second viewing, I
noticed this was remarkably well-constructed for a vid that didn't
really have a 'storyline' per se and that the techno actually worked
because it had a 'creepy/ominous' element to it... as if the car was
'possessed'. When I noticed it was pulled from the Matrix movies, the
choice became ironic (i.e. machines taking over). {g} Song pace
matched scene choices and I'll give points for chosing a different
type of music to work with, even if it was jarring at first.
Song Title/Vid Title: The Message
Artist: Coldplay
Vidder: Charli
Characters: general
http://community.livejournal.com/supernaturalvid/248587.html
The song choice is beautiful and SPN's S2 has been on its A-game.
Scene choices were powerful but... *man*, I think this vidder could've
had a extremely moving vid with some adjustments in editing. All the
elements were *there* for the taking. While I loved many of the
slo-mo edits, starting off the vid with some of the more 'powerful'
emotional scenes wouldn't have been my choice. I think those scenes
would've worked out better placed when the strength/passion of the
song increased as well. I think having more variety in clip length
and more 'normal speed' clips would emphasize the slo-mo ones. And
then there were the fade to blacks at the end and they gave the
impression of 'choppiness' when the song is a very fluid one. Still,
I loved the ending scene choice and I agree with another person's
comment about not noticing how the brothers walked in-sync until
seeing that clip.
Song Title/Vid Title: Wake Up
Artist: Coheed And Cambria
Vidder: sacrilicious
Characters: Sam and Dean (Wincest)
http://sacrilicious.livejournal.com/38863.html
Hm, didn't immediately fall in love with the song but it's a good
choice for the sentiment of this vid. There's more than the struggle;
there's also the moments of having fun, connecting and looking forward
to life. For the most part, I liked the vid's editing.
