have sounded awful - suet? I can't serve anyone suet
Lynn:
Here's a link you may find interesting - http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/spotlight/christmas_pudding.shtml
It gives you a recipe but also some background about the christmas pudding.
This link http://pudding.denyer.net/ gives you another recipe but also gives you some UK/US conversions and substitutions - you can use butter instead of suet. You may also try using vegetable shortening instead. I know it's not something you can find in England so it's probably not known/used in Australia either. I've used vegetable shortening anytime I've found an English recipe which calls for lard and that's pretty much what suet is, isn't it?
It's a pretty interesting site. Here's something which I found there on the flaming pudding:
Message: Pyromaniac improvements;
dissolve sugar in the brandy before warming / igniting. This acts as added fuel and keeps the flame going for much longer - if you use a metal spoon to scoop the flaming liquid from the plate back on to the top of the pudding then it is perfectly possible to do the traditional circumnavigation of the dining table with the flaming pud before serving (all due caution encouraged and liabilities disclaimed, of course).
Also, mark me down as someone who'd like the recipe section. Perhaps it could also include some standard conversions and substitutions between US/UK and a section for those recipes that Harry loves?
