The icky red and green stuff is candied red and green
cherries, which, in my opinion, bear no discernable
relationship to candy or to cherries or to any natural
product in the univers. Well, that's not quite true -
the sugar concentration gives them _some_ relation to
candy, but it's a technical similarity only. And the
colors could only have come from a chemistry lab.

I detest standard issue fruitcake, but have a friend
who makes one that is quite nice. No citron, no icky
red and green stuff, just real dried fruits and fresh
nuts bound together with a batter and saturated with
spirits. I, of course, insist that it is not REALLY
fruitcake - it can't be, because it tastes good. :-)
