Living up the OT in OTChatter by bringing a completely different
fandom into the mix. I've been doing SPN vid comments for a bit. One
here just to mix things up.
Standard disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about. So if I'm
critical of a vid, it's not because I really know how to edit. I'll
comment on the vids I saw.
After already hearing local news reports of fighting over the newest
Tickle Me Elmo doll, I'll go Sesame Street 'old skool' and say this
post is brought to you by the letter, J.
This week was the 'launch' of the CW network and with it brought more
'platonic boy love' between Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. With
such classic moments filmed on tape of Padalecki 'molesting' Ackles
from behind (icons at
http://graphixbyebonio.livejournal.com/63640.html ) and that amusing
moment of the CW caption, "the kids from... 'Everybody Hates
Chris'"... look behind those kids, in the very back, for the 'big
kids' of Supernatural at
http://community.livejournal.com/dean_sam/136862.html Ackles uses
breath freshner spray and then Padalecki opens his mouth for Ackles to
spritz and then Ackles does one extra in the face for good measure,
which you can see Padalecki laugh. Suffice it to say, the RPS folk
had their theories on why both guys may have needed breath freshner.
{chuckle} And on that thought, J2 vids...

Vidder: lisan
Characters: actors (Jared and Jensen)

Taking advantage of a good internet connection, I opted to download
the big muthafuka file choice... Change of times, I remember thinking
a 28.8 modem (versus 14.4) was fast when I got my first computer.
Entertaining vid where the vidder tried to match as many literal clips
to lyrics. Touching back on past vid comments RE: 'highway' metaphors
for life in general, as a lighter/fun look, literalism mostly worked
here. Editing, not a bad job done with just one very noticeable rough
cut, I especially liked the quick cuts between photo scenes in the
makeup/hair trailer in relationship to the music. Not exactly a song
I'm 100% lovin' but that's no fault of the vidder.
Song Title/Vid Title: Hella Good

Fun vid and first time I heard this song. I was getting into the
'retro' music. {g} Overall, I had mixed reactions to this vid. I
enjoyed the opening sequence of promo image stills (some I hadn't seen
before and not just because they're for S2) to the single percussion
beat. I also considered more of my favorite parts to include
additional stills to the music but it worked for me because those
moments were in moderation, considering the song and image choices. I
didn't jive with the PS ending scene, the Sonofabitch Dean clip
sequence, because it seemed to have no connection to the vid, other
than being added on at the very end. It's a vid I'd probably watch
again, past the three or more times I may watch a vid to type up these
comments, so the vid does have something going for it... well, yeah,
obviously 'eye candy' for me. ;-)
Also, this vid did remind me of how I was amused by that slow pan of
Dean's prostrate body in bed and the timing of the opening credit
saying 'Starring Jared Padalecki' right around the pan's timeframe
showing Dean's ass.
A complete tangent... as a former Star Trek: Voyager slasher of
Chakotay/Paris, I was even more amused to see the director name of
Robert Duncan McNeill pop up in Skin's opening credits. I was like
{blink, blink}... 'Tom Paris' brought the yummy shapeshifter!Dean and
Sam scenes with lots of bondage and blood 'play'?! Next to Kathy
Bates for her directing two sweaty guys wrestling and the camera speed
shifting for a slow rub against each other in seduction for Oz, RDM
became my 'hero' for bringing the UST 'eye candy'. {g} Bit of a
flashback, I think Tom Paris topped the multi-fandom angst archive as
character most likely to be 'tortured' in fic (i.e. TnT =
Tom'n'Torture) back in the late 1990s. Years later, I still remember
the usage of a 'spiked' dildo in one slash fic. Ouch.
Song Title/Vid Title: The Night It Went Too Far
Artist: Jet Set Satellite
Vidder: sacrilicious
Characters: Sam and Dean (Wincest)

Speaking of the episode, Skin, this vid uses scenes from it to help
construct/enhance the [sexual] tension between Sam and Dean. Ugh, a
multitude of fade to blacks! Actually, the fades do work for this vid
with cuts to 'meaningful looks' but does remind me of my initial
sentiment of seeing this effect too often in SPN vids. I believe this
is the first time I've heard this song and I like it. Song had a good
'edge' to it for the tension between the brothers and, eventually,
their father. Overall, I consider this vid a 'keeper' and would
definitely watch it again.
Song Title/Vid Title: For Once In My Life
Artist: Michael Buble
Vidder: Sena
Characters: Sam and Dean

LOL, wow! As I was watching this vid, I had this smile that was
hurting my cheeks. :-D It's good to see a variety of music types and
the vidder made this song work in a light-hearted way. While the vid
was intended as 'brotherly love', it could also be seen as Wincest, if
you wanted to look at it that way. Reminded me of reading a post
where a non-fan watched Supernatural and didn't initially realize Sam
and Dean were supposed to be *brothers*. With season two, TPTB are
bringing in more actresses. {chuckle} Anyway, nice pace and editing.
Definite keeper.
Song Title/Vid Title: Chasing Cars
Artist: Snow Patrol
Vidder: Amanda
Characters: Sam and Dean (Wincest)

Even though this is the second SPN vid to the same song I've seen, I
still went 'awww'. As I said before, it's a nice song. The brothers
are so cute in their 'angsty love'. {g} I liked the sentiment behind
this vid, but while the song was slow-paced, some clips ran a bit too
long and too much literalism of lyric to clip didn't benefit this vid,
IMHO. Just when I was really getting into the emotion of the song and
scene, a literal shot *that didn't enhance the emotion* jarred me out.
I'm not against literal shots in non-humour vids; I just think they
should be 'harmonious' with the tone of the vid and meaning of the
song.
