Two Matters of Note (To me at least)

It seems that a leading light of English detective fiction has
now passed through the veil. As well as Aurelio Zen, Michael Dibdin
created perhaps the best Sherlock Holmes story not written by the
great Sir Arthur himself. It is called "The Last Sherlock Holmes
Story". Mr. Dibdin's obituary can be found here:

On a lighter note it appears the French are getting something of
a comeuppance in respect of their wines, new world wines are often
more pallatable, in my opinion, the French do still brew a fair
