new to HP books -- suggestions ???

Hello. I've never read any of the HP books, but everyone keeps telling
me that I should. I'm more of an Anne Rice "Vampire Chronicles" fan, so
I'm not sure if the HP series is really something I'd like.... What do
you all think? And where should I start, if I decide to read these?
