[HPFGU-OTChatter] What line/party to attend?

The small bookstore in my hometown is taking preorders and having a
party on the 20th to wait for the release at midnight. They said there
will be people in costume, etc. and it sounds like fun, but I'd have to
attend by myself. On the other hand, if I order from Borders (about
half hour's drive) my husband will go with me and just hang out in
Borders. I'm assuming they will be open because they're open until
midnight on Friday anyway.

Is it worth going to a party or will I just end up grabbing my book and
running home. This is my first year - I just started reading the
series about a year ago. I'm sort of leaning towards the local
bookstore/party just to have the experience.

For those of you who pick up your books at midnight, what are your
thoughts on parties, waiting, etc?

==================================

Jeremiah:

I've never been a big supporter of dressing like the characters, but I do
knit scarves and hats from the film and my own imaginaton.

But it's fun to see others do it, if they are so inclined.

I found out that my local Sci-Fi/Horror/Mystery book Store will have its
doors open at midnight to accomodate the release. :) I can't believe I'm
going to go to one again, actually.

I went to GoF and it was a chain store near my house. There wew families all
over the place and that's cool with me. What freaked me out was being the
only single person in the store (I was way ahead of my friends at the time)
and I stood in line with all the parents who talked aobut how late it was,
what they were doing the next day... and I thought "Wholy crap. I'm a geek!"
A parent turned to me and asked where my kid was. I panicked... "At home.
She's asleep." (let me remind you.. I don't have any kids. I was saving
face! Manuver! Manuver!! Serpentine! Run hard, Run fast....) "Awe. And
you're gonna suprise her with the book in the morning?" She asked.. "Yup.
Over her pancakes and sausage." *collective awwwww* from the parentals in
line. :) I'm a liar. And a closet Harry Potter fan.

Since then I've come out about my true reading tastes. It's not a choice. I
have to read good fiction and I think I was born that way. ;)

I say GO! go and have fun. Enjoy the little shin-dig all by yourself. you'll
meet others who are into the series and they'll probably want to meet for
coffee (or, if you'r one of my friends it's beer and margaritas and The Hole
in San Diego, CA. Smoking, drinking, laughing... inappropriate discussions
about the possibility of Prof McGonagall and Prof Sprout being lesbian
lovers... lol.. Still makes me giggle.) So, since it's your alst chance to
do somethin glike this and there will be locals I would encourage you to do
it. Make your husband go with you, too. He lust learn to embrace you for
what you are. An HP fan!

Jeremiah: (How has knit a most fantastic Gryffindor hat for his friend Tisha
and hopes to make many, many more... also, he is waiting for the release of
*Charmed Knits: Projects for Fans of Harry Potter )*
