I know what you're talking about, the same thing happened to me when I
was reading half blood. I was appalled when I realized how fast I was
going through it, so in a supreme act of will power I closed the book
and walked away for a few hours so I could digest what I've already
read. Reading the ending first will certainly not take all the fun out
of the book, but I would estimate it would reduce it by about 30%.
