[Emily]:
| Hey, a question for my British friends,
|
| Whenever I watch any of the HP movies, except maybe this last one
| where they make a big deal about the drought, I always wonder, do
| people in the UK really wear long-sleeve shirts and sweaters in July
[Lee]:
Back in August of 1979, I hosted a couple of pen friends, one from
Birmingham and the other from Radcliffe-On-Trent, Nottingham. My mother,
two brothers and I took them on a long walk through our favorite park and,
when we started out, we of the US were in shorts and short-sleeve shirts
while my British friends wore (and this is no joke) long-sleeve Denim
jackets and one actually had a scarf like a muffler around his neck.
Suffice it to say that by the time we finished our close-to-two-hour walk,
the jackets and scarf were playing the role of arm decorations. <Grin>
Air conditioners were almost unknown, to, as they ended up blowing a breaker
by opening up windows to get cool, not realizing that such was the job of
the air conditioner.
It was an interesting two weeks. <Grin>
Cheers,
Lee :-)
