Julie I was shell shocked in a way only becuase I felt a sadness at this being the last book. I can only hope that maybe lightening will strike again and give JKR some more inspiration and give us a story about rebuilding the wizarding world. Starting from the time the war ended and leading up to the epilogue she wrote. I know it probably will never happen, but I can only hope.

I got my book at Barnes and Noble at midnight. I was astonished
by how many people were there, well over a thousand. (I live in
Orange County, California, which does not have a small population
but also has quite a few bookstores.) We spent the final hour
standing outside along the sidewalks and in the parking lot area
(which was taped off in front of B&N). It was rather amazing to
see so many kids, teenagers, and adults with scars drawn on
their foreheads, wearing robes, ties, Harry Potter glasses, etc.
As for the book, it was definitely a roller-coaster ride. I
agree with Steve and Carol that it was everything it should
be. There will always be a few questions, a few loose ends,
and I'm sure we all had our hopes for this character or that
character that didn't materialize quite as we might have wished.
But all in all it was an amazing finish.
BTW, I agree with those who felt a bit shell-shocked after
reading it. That is how I felt after I finished the book this
afternoon. It makes me feel a bit silly, being so emotionally
involved in the lives of fictional characters (and again the
book really IS very emotional and the intensity really builds
during the final few chapters). But it was a great ride all
the way.
