JKR's book recommendations

Seeing all the recent discussion about what to read next reminds me
that I've been meaning to post a link to J.K. Rowling's list of
favorite books, as of six years ago anyway, when she did an interview
and provided her favorite books list (with commentary) for Oprah
magazine's "Books that Made a Difference" series.

Here's the link to the intro page, then there are links to the
interview and to the "bookshelf":

I think she has talked about many of these books in other interviews
as well.

I just started reading Roddy Doyle's "The Woman Who Walked Into Doors"
which I've been meaning to get to after running across this article a
few years ago. I just read one of his other books (A Star Called
Henry) which I found very slow going but then it did come around in
the end. This one is much easier going, not the least because so far
my ignorance of Irish history is not impeding my understanding of what
is going on in the story.

I think it would be quite interesting to compile a list of
books/authors that JKR has recommended in interviews; she doesn't
always list the same ones. Also books that appear on her personal
bookshelf - I think we've discussed here the ones that are on the
bookshelf at JKRowling.com (including a couple of Roddy Doyle books)
but there are also some publicity photos that were taken in her office
where she is standing in front of bookshelves. I think one of those
photos may have been used in the British edition book jacket, but I
can't find any of those pictures now. Anyone know where they might
turn up onthe web?

an opportunity
