By any chance is the part you objected to at the very end
when J.R. says something to the effect that if you want
to see Dan Radcliffe in Equus, or it you just want to see
Harry Potters... /**cough**/ (polite term 'willie')...?
Some have criticized Ross for making every interview about
'ME...ME...ME...' meaning Jonathan Ross himself. Also,
many criticized his alledged £18 million/yr paycheck. That
seem excessive, I don't think Jay Leno or Dave Letterman
make that much. Last I heard Letterman makes about US$17
million per year; Jay Leno a little less than that. So,
£18 million/yr (US$36 million) seems excessive and
unlikely.
But I do like his interview style, of course I haven't
seen him a lot, but it seems like he engages in fun
spontaneous conversation with his guests and allows them
10 to 15 of air time. Most TV Chat shows barely allow
5 to 10 minute per guest. The US Chat Show conversations
seem spontaneous, but the have a pre-interview and the
chat host simply works in all the bits that the guest
has pre-determined that they want to talk about. Rarely
are they ever put on the spot. Which is probably one
reason why Jon Ross is also criticized. He does seem to
try to get into potentially uncomfortable subjects with
the guests. In a manner of speaking, he doesn't stick to
the script and that opens the door for the guests to
potentially misstate themselves or better yet be left
speechless. But that unpredictability and true
spontaneousness probably leads to some of the best parts
of the interview.
In both of Dan's appearances on the Jonathan Ross show,
Ross trys to catch Dan or trick him into saying something
controversial, but Dan is just too sharp. He seems to
know just how to deflect any awkward or embarrassing
taunts, yet at the same time is very comfortably chatting
about things that might embarrass the average 17 year old.
I really think Dan handles himself exceptionally well in
both interviews.
Just one more reason why I worry about Rupert. He doesn't
seem to do well in interviews or in front of live audiences.
That's why I think a stint in Stand-Up Comedy might be
good for Rupert. It would teach him to be more spontaneous
and outgoing. It would also teach him that a Chat Show
interview IS a performance, not just a conversation.
Enough rambling for now.

PS: does anyone else thing that Rupert might be a good
choice for the next incarnation of 'Doctor Who'?
