Funny you should mention the rosebushes at the Yule 
Ball, since I've been toying with the idea of 
writing a post on MAIN about how the whole Yule Ball 
episode pretty much demonstrates that there are
no gay characters at all in the Potterverse. And 
those rosebushes are indeed one of the arguments 
I've been thinking of. They were one of those perfect 
opportunites to discreetly inject some homosexuality
into the books, and yet, just like all other such 
opportunities, JKR didn't make any use of it. Some 
may call it coincidence, I call it manipulation and 
deceit, in the light of her "DD is gay" comment.
