Kemper now:
I went to the library last night to start the Sequence because so many people recommended it as well.  I was surprised to find it was published over 40 years ago.  

I enjoyed His Dark Materials.  Though, I was disappointed in Lyra's character.  In the first book, she is strong and independent.  Then she meets a boy.  And becomes less strong, less independent.  Or so it seems to me.  I look forward to the movie (Nicole Kidman looks wicked!) and hope the script keeps Lyra more bad ass than the series.
