He did ask to work with her on her encyclopedia. She said no. When
she found out he was planning to publish the Lexicon for profit, she
had her attorneys send his publishers a Cease & Desist letter. They
ignored it. My impression from following this is that, aside from the
Warner Bros. interest in protecting their rights to Harry Potter (which
in all fairness, they paid for), JKR has very strong personal feelings
about wanting to do her own encyclopedia whose profits are to go to
charity.
