Ah, but it's not what it means to a Brit that counts, it's what it 
would mean to our American cousins. They have some odd ideas over 
there, including calling the engine door of a car a hood, when we 
all know that another item of headwear covers same, that being a 
bonnet. Have you never noticed the frills on many cars?
