Potioncat:
To answer your question Carol, my 19 year old doesn't wear one. I've 
never seen a young man calling on Sarah wearing one. I think the places 
I've seen them most is in Ads and on some TV shows. And, speaking of TV 
shows...

Seems even in England there's a bit of lower-class stereotype to it.
