SSSusan/Shorty Elf:
Speaking as both a regular list member and as a list elf, I would
like to disagree. There *are* logical reasons for the requirement of
not top-posting.
First, placing one's comments below quoted material (preferably
snipped to its bare minimum!) puts the comments in what I
call "conversation order." One doesn't have to scroll DOWN to read
what was said before and then back UP to see what's being added; one
simply reads or skims the quote to refresh her/his memory, and then
the new comments flow right onward.
The other reason for not top-posting is that, for the benefit of our
visually impaired members who are using screenreading software, it
helps if all members of the HPfGU community use a consistent pattern
in posting. The screenreading software is, imo, a miracle, but it
still takes a lot of work to sort things out if quotes aren't snipped
or aren't attributed or if new comments are placed where the reader
isn't expecting them.
So, that's my two knuts for leaving the posting rule exactly where
it's always been.
