There is really no need to remove yourself from the list. If
you want to stop receiving emails, then just go into your 
group account settings and turn email off. Actually, I think
you set it to read the posts on the web.

That way, if at some point in the future you want to come back,
you can always just go to the group webpage, and read and 
respond to emails there.

Personally, I hate getting that constant flood of email, so
in the many years of being involved in these groups, I've
never gotten an email. I always read at the group website.
