It happens to me too. It wasn't until a recent rereading of DH that I realized why DD, Lupin, and others were willing to believe the Sirius was the traitor. It always annoyed me that they were so quick to believe that he turned in the Potters. They thought he was reverting to his family's beliefs. 

The other Aha! moment was when I finally realized why Snape was so hard on Neville. If Voldemort had chosen Neville instead of Harry, Lily would be alive.
