SV Now

As good as JKR may or may may not be I find it difficult to believe that the
books were as good as the movies. With the movies you can identify with one
charactor or another in the sense that you can't by reading the books imo.

As an English teacher, I have to say, I find that comment disturbing.

If you haven't read the books, please refrain from wasting time commenting
on them as it makes absolutely no sense, imo.

The experience of reading a book, of becoming personally and deeply involved
with characters and stories in the sort of detail you simply can't have with
a film. A book allows you to see and interpret in a way a film never can,
you have the director, actor, screenwriter, editor, producer and composer
all in between you and the experience, all manipulating your experience.
With a book it's just you and the author.

I don't care if you don't read the books, if you never read the books and if
you don't want to read the books but if you haven't read the books then you
can't possibly compare the books to the films.
