Yeah, no doubt!  But to give him due, I enjoyed Gremlins.
I enjoyed the Percy Jackson series.  The author, Rick Riordan, gave a reading here last fall and I forked over the $10 to see him (which was really $11 too much: what a bore!)  He shared with us the good news that the first book was being made into a movie.  We all clapped and cheered and wooted.  And then he said that even more awesome was it was being directed by the same director as the first two [horrible] Harry Potter movies.  I booed and booed and booed, but my displeasure was drowned out by the naive.  

The cast looks great except for the college freshman playing a middle 12 year old.
