Geoff;
Interesting how different people see the books. I think 
that "The Horse and his Boy" is dreadful. It just doesn't 
seem to chime with the rest of the series at all. "The 
Last Battle" is one of my favourites because of the 
fascinating Narnian view of trhe afterlife...

Agreed. It has been suggested that when he came to 
write the last novel, he had been influenced by Charles 
Williams.

I think "Out of the Silent Planet" is the best. The 
second is a bit wordy in places. Lots of talk and no 
action.
