Carol responds:

I second Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy (what a name!) and Pericles and Aspasia. I would add a tragic real-life couple, Richard III and his wife, Anne Neville, and--I hear some people laughing in the background--Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah in "Splash." Love that movie!

In the HP books, the only couple I really like (individually and as a couple) is Mr. and Mrs. Weasley. I have mixed feelings about Ron and Hermione, mostly because I like him better than her (I do think that once he gains his self-confidence, he can deal with her and will be happy). I don't like the Harry/Ginny pairing at all, mostly because I can't stand Ginny.

How about Kreacher and Mrs. Black? (Just joking.)

I'm trying to think of a Shakespearean couple that I really like, individually and as a couple, but I can't think of one. Romeo and Juliet don't have much personality, I can't stand either Portia or Antonio in "The Merchant of Venice," and I remember the heroines much more clearly than the heroes in the comedies.

Anyway, fun question and harder than it seems!

Carol, adding Eowyn and Faramir from LOTR (the book version) as an afterthought even though we don't see much of them
