That's understandable. But I live in Texas :-). OTOH, at some point of my life I lived in Israel, which is also in a seismic-active area, and they only have brick and stone buildings there, no wood (not that they have much of it :-)). I suppose they just don't have earthquakes as often as you do in California :-). I've only been through one that was rather strong and the houses stood well. It was very scary though.

I've just found out it's called "brick veneer", I think :-).
