I don't know for sure, but I thought it was a small gate, not the one that goes overhead :-). Anyway, there was no mistletoe hanging from the gate, but a couple of trees next to the house did have mistletoe growing on them.

That's the point, I don't understand if it means, as you say, "go get your own, don't touch mine" or on the contrary it means an invitation to take his, kind of "you are welcome to take my mistletoe, but pluck it yourself" :-).
