Yeah, see, I've always assumed they were crystal balls, but yesterday one of the girls who are doing the translation asked me why it was plural, and why it doesn't say "crystal ball/balls" and stuff like that :-). This made me wonder if there was some kind of double meaning here that I didn't see before. 

I heard the expression "to break balls", although I thought it meant "to work too hard". But if it really means something like "to annoy", it could work. OTOH, if, as Geoff says, they don't know this expression in the UK, maybe JKR didn't intend any double meanings here at all, who knows :-). Thank you guys anyway :-).
