Just finished watching Wild Target, and I have to say I was very impressed.
I didn't have high expectations for this movie. I expected it to be an OK independent film, and I was OK with that. I'm not always looking for mega-hit productions, sometimes I like something odd and quirky, so I was OK regardless of how it turned out.
But, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Good production values, and it held together from beginning to end. A few suspenseful action moments, a good car chase, a few laughs, a few twist of the plot.
I also have to say that I was very impressed with Rupert Grint. While I thoroughly like Rupert, I think he has one failing as an actor. When he speaker, it seem more like he is pulling his lines in rather than projecting them out. I think he could do with some speech and diction lessons.
Having said that, I was very impressed with his role in this film. He came across as very natural in a movie that has elements of farce to it. His voice, which I previously commented on, was also very natural and clear.
This makes me very eager to see Rupert Grint in the upcoming "Comrade" movie where he will play opposite David Kross, the German actor who played opposite Kate Winslet in "The Reader", where I thought he did a stunning job for a very young actor.
This gives me hope that Rupert might find his footing as an actor, and be able to carry on.
I'm very eager to see "Cherry Bomb", but can't find it anywhere, and I'm not really willing to join Netflix just to see one movie.
The only place I've seen "Cherry Bomb" is on Amazon.com (USA), yet, it is only available in PAL format. If Netflix has it, it must be available on NTSC somewhere.
"Wild Target" was distributed by Foxlight, and I vaguely heard a rumor they were picking up "Cherry Bomb", so there is hope I will find it in my video store yet.
In short, "Wild Target" greatly exceeded my expectations, and I found it an enjoyable and engaging movie. Well worth watching.
As budget independent films go, I would probably give in an 8 out of 10, and as movies in general go, I would give it a solid 6 or 7 out of 10. As I said, I was impressed in general, and really enjoyed the movie.
