Remember, you have to type all FOUR numbers; 0241 is not the same as 241. The '±' character should be 0177 (ALT 0177). It has to be ZERO 241 or ZERO 177. 

I use mostly Currency (£,¥, €), square², cube³, degree°, and plus/minus±.

Though not well known, the Euro ( € ) is ALT 0128.
