[HPFGU-OTChatter] When does a kid become a grownup?

[Carol]:
| Since we don't have a conversation going on, I've decided to
| post a new topic. Does anyone have an opinion on when a kid
| should officially become a grown-up? The age of majority used
| to be 21 (when I was a kid, you couldn't even vote till you
| were 21; I think it was the Vietnam War that changed that
| law.) Now it's 18 for most privileges (except alcohol and
| tobacco). In the WW, it's 17 (which, to me, seems too young
| given the prolonged adolescence in most modern societies).
| Anyone want to chime in on this topic? (Of course, kids
| mature at different rates, but I'm talking about kids in general.)
|
| Carol, just curious about what others think

[Lee]:
Of course, there are some of us who refuse to grow up and some who just
haven't been able to do so. <Grin>

As far as Age Of Majority," I've seen so-called adults who are less mature
than some under the age. <Sigh> As far as wizarding Age Of Majority, I
think they're drilled with some sense of responsibility, though judging by
Gred and Forge, one wonders how well the drilling is accepted. :-)

As strange as this may sound, I'm not averse to 18, but I can't help
wondering if some kind of course should be required...something that deals
with real-life goals and expectations, financial awareness, adult life
skills, etc. Too many young people enter adulthood knowing little or
nothing of the real world, so to speak, and end up in trouble of one type
or another. Perhaps it should be a mandatory High School course in the
final semester...I don' know...but just some of my thoughts.

Smile, and I sure hope spring will really come soon! I'm so done with the
chilly weather and spring snow.

Lee :-)
