I know how to reconfigure the System-Wide SpellChecker for British Spelling,so decided to chimein. I had the courtesy to mark it as off topic and receive punishment for mine honesty. The listelf did suggest posting it here, so I do. Begin forwarded message: From: ??alabio? Subject: [offtopic] Setting System-Wide SpellCheck To Specific Versions Of English [/offtopic] Date: June 3, 2013 6:52:50 PM GMT To: HPforGrownups at yahoogroups.com ?Hello! ?How fare you? Some of you have trouble fighting your spellcheckers. One can change the preferences of the spellchecker: 0thly, these instructions are for MacOS?, but I am certain that one can change the preferences in other Unices and Windows in a similar way. Just do not give-up at the 0th step if you do not have a Utility called ?SystemPreference?. Just look for your equivalent: 0. Open ?SystemPreferences? or your comparable program. 1. Select ?Languages & Text? or whatever your computer calls it. 2. The default on a MacIntosh for English typing is to treat all regional variations as acceptable (your defaults may vary). 3. One can change it to ?Australian English?, ?British English?, ?Canadian English?, or ?U.S. English? (your choices may vary). 4. Choose "British English" or the equivalent. The details probably varied for many of you, but at this point, your System-Wide SpellChecker uses British English. Spaniards came up with this great innovation called in vertex punctuation. It allows one to write inverted ?ExclamationPoint!, ?QuestionMarks?, and ?Interrobangs?. Some English-Speaking writers refuse to use them because they were not invented in England. My response to that is that these writers should not use the _?*LATIN*?_ alphabet for writing because it is Romantic ?? ?not English! On a MacIntosh, just select ?Special Characters? from the Menu ?Edit? This will probably vary on different types of computers, but I am certain that your computer has a way to do it). ?Peace! -- ???alabio?? Message-ID: Hi All. As our moderator wisely said the thread on the main board waqs going wildly 'off topic, so let's put this here. As has been said by myself the attitudes of many fundamentalists, (indeed almost a definition of the 'condition) is absolute unshakeable belief in a particular view of a subject, be it religious or otherwise, like extremist politics for instance. Of itself this pose no threat to anybody and people have the right to believe whatever they wish, no matter how silly or irrational it seems to other. For instance , our own shared interest in the Harry Potter stories might seem odd to some, perhaps even silly, but if we are 'nutters' we are harmless 'nutters', but I'm sure none of us go so far as to let it take over our lives orb make us wish to 'convert'others, especially not by force.;o) Sadly however this is not the case with true fundamentalism, religious, political or otherwise, the adherents to such ideologies are prepared to do anything to increase the numbers of their particular obsessive groupings and some will even kill to 'demonstrate' their commitment to their cause and how 'right'it is. :o( Other less radical and perhaps slightly less dangerous types, such as, for instance as Walabio pointed out what he calls 'Creatards' are very active in denying the more widely accepted views of most of humanity and reject science's findings about such things as evolution, how the world came into being and even at it's worst are Flat Earthers! In the post in which Walabio agreed with my analysis of such 'types' he added we seemed to share the same enemies, as I myself have had some internet arguments elsewhere in the past with such people and added that we "seemed to share the same enemies". I'm not too sure about how far I'd consider such people 'enemies' however. If such a person who holds such views tends not to try and force them on others or bore them with their beliefs then fair enough, they have that right, no matter how silly a given idea may be. Such a 'non active' opinion is no threat to anyone and at worst, if the opinion held is truly 'far out' be it Alien Abduction by UFO's, religious cultism/fundamentalism or political extremism then perhaps the more compassionate response is pity not enmity. :o) If however the 'weirdo' is actively advocating and attempting to spread their fixed and ignorant views and is prepared to use intimidation, force or even mas murder to back them up then of course they become the enemy not just of myself but of all rational humanity. Just a few thoughts, how do others feel? Many Blessings. John, (Oriondruid). Posted by: ?John? Date: Tue Jun 18, 2013 3:21 pm ((PDT)) Sorry about the appalling typing in my previous post. I do not mind. Ditto to your previous post, but we should influenza 1 thing ?Dogmatism! Theism versus nontheism is a red herring. Going back to the CreaTards, they would like to remove STEM* from schools * Stemm: * Science * Technology * Engineering * Mathematics ?Why do CreaTards oppose STEM? Because STEM contradicts their dogma. Let us bring this back to Harry Potter: The most dangerous faction of witches and wizards in the books, just so happens to be the most dogmatic. These are the DeathEaters. The dogma of the DeathEaters is thus: * Purebloods are superior to all others. * Muggleborns must die. * Muggles should be the slaves of witches and wizards. The DeathEaters are very dogmatic, and they act on their dogma.
